Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Hago Harrington
Left-winger Leland Harrington played parts of three NHL seasons in the 20s and 30s. He spent the bulk of his pro career as one of the top players in the history of the Can-Am League.

Born in Melrose, Massachusetts, "Hago" began his career with the Boston AA Unicorns and the local AAA squad. In 1925-26 he scored seven goals for the Boston Bruins playing on a line with Gerry Geran and Herb Mitchell. The next year he scored 21 times in 32 games for the New Haven Eagles of the Can-Am circuit but was not summoned by the Bruins. He returned to the NHL for 22 games in 1927-28 before returning to the Can-Am for the next 4 1/2 years. His best year during this period came in 1931-32 when he led the league with 20 assists while playing for the Providence Reds.

Harrington received one last shot at the NHL after Providence sent him to the Montreal Canadiens for three players, including Armand Mondou. The hard working winger played solidly for his new club and recorded a goal during an opening round playoff loss to the New York Rangers. Harrington returned to Providence the next season and was a fine playmaker for the club until retiring in 1936. Overall he helped the club win Can-Am championships in 1930, 1932 and 1934.
