Defenceman Frank Heffernan played 19 games for the Toronto St. Pats in 1919-20. He was best known as a solid positional player who could score goals in the USAHA and various senior leagues.

The native of Peterborough, Ontario first garnered attention as a standout on the senior Ottawa College squad in 1911-12. He then ventured to Toronto to play in the OHA Senior A league for the city's R & AA and Victorias teams. In 1915-16 he joined the New York Crescents and was one of the top offensive defencemen in the USAHA. He spent two more years in New York and also played a couple of games for the Springhill Miners of the Nova Scotia senior circuit.

In 1918-19, Heffernan returned to Toronto to suit up for the senior St. Pats. After averaging a point per game for the club he was signed as a free agent by the St. Pats' NHL entry. He played his position well for one season before bringing his career to a close after the 1919-20 season.
