Left-winger Art Herchenratter played ten games for the Detroit Red Wings in 1940-41. He was a decent offensive player who could check and rarely found himself in the penalty box.

Born in Kitchener, Ontario, Herchenratter played junior with the local Greenshirts of the OHA then played in the MOHL with Detroit Holzbaugh and the Windsor Bulldogs. After signing as a free agent with the Red Wings, he recorded three points in 10 games in 1940-41 then spent most of his time with the Indianapolis Capitals of the AHL.

During the 40's the hardworking forward played in the minors and senior leagues while also spending two years in military service. After the War he played in the AHL and USHL before returning to his hometown to play senior hockey with the well-known Dutchmen. He retired in 1950 after playing three years for the club.
