Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Bob Hess
Bob Hess was the Blues' number one pick in the 1974 Amateur Draft, and they put him to work on their blueline that same year. During Hess' rookie season with St. Louis, he tallied 39 points in 76 games, his NHL career best and a performance that earned him a full-time job the following year as well.

For the next three seasons, Hess divided his time between the NHL and the CHL, with most of his playing done in St. Louis. In 1979-80, he played exclusively for the Salt Lake Golden Eagles, scoring 32 goals and 42 assists. When the following season opened, he was back with the Blues for four games before being traded to Buffalo for Bill Stewart. He spent the rest of that regular season with the Rochester Americans. Hess' 75 points in 70 games helped earn him a spot on the AHL First All-Star team in 1981 and a playoff appearance in a Sabres sweater as well.

In 1981-82, he once again split his time between Rochester and Buffalo. With the exception of 13 games played in the AHL, Hess spent most of the next two seasons in Switzerland. He was signed as a free agent by the Hartford Whalers in December 1984, and made his last three NHL appearances for that organization. He finished his playing career with the Salt Lake Golden Eagles of the IHL in 1984-85.
