Left-winger Andre Hidi played seven games with the Washington Capitals in the early 80s. He was a top scorer as an amateur and filled a useful two way role in a short pro career spent mostly in the minors.
The Toronto native scored 30 goals for the OHA's Peterborough Petes in 1979-80 and represented Canada at the World Junior Championships. That summer he was taken 148th overall by the Colorado Rockies at the Entry Draft. Early in the 1980-81 season Hidi enrolled at the University of Toronto. He recorded 91 goals in just under four years and helped U Of T win the CIAU championship in 1984.
In March, 1984, the robust winger signed with the Washington Capitals as a free agent. He played one regular season game and two playoff contests then saw spot duty early the next season. Hidi played most of the 1984-86 period with the Binghamton Whalers of the AHL where he provided grit and offense before retiring.
