Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Jim Hofford
Jim Hofford was a rugged defenceman who rarely found himself out of position. He played briefly with the Buffalo Sabres and the LA Kings in the 80s but played most of his pro hockey in the AHL.

Born in Sudbury, Ontario Hofford was chosen 118th overall by the Buffalo Sabres in 1983 after two solid years with the Windsor Spitfires of the OHA/OHL. He was returned to junior but lost most of the season to injuries. The young blueliner returned in 1984-85 and played a solid role as a rookie pro with the Rochester Americans of the AHL. He was recalled a couple of times over the next two seasons but continued to be a hard-nosed mainstay on the Rochester defense.

On the eve of the 1988-89 season, the LA Kings claimed Hofford on waivers. He played one game for his new club but was unable to take hold of a permanent position. Hofford retired in 1990 after spending two more years in the AHL with Rochester.
