Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Gary Holt
Gary Holt had a lack of size working against him, and a long list of detractors, but he was determined to make it to the NHL. After two years of junior hockey with the Niagara Falls Flyers in the OHA, Holt was not drafted by any NHL club. Known more as a defensive specialist, Holt played in 64 games with the Flyers in 1971-72, scoring eleven goals and 23 points.

As a free agent, Holt signed with Columbus-Port Huron of the IHL the following year, where he scored 30 goals and 60 points in 75 games. In 1973-74, he joined the Salt Lake Golden Eagles of the WHL, who were affiliated with the NHL's California Golden Seals. Holt appeared in one game with the Golden Seals that year and the next before cracking the lineup for 48 appearances in 1975-76. During that season, he scored six goals and eleven points.

In 1976-77, he played two games with the Cleveland Barons before joining the St. Louis Blues in 1977-78. It was with the Blues that Holt dressed for 49 games, scoring seven times while assisting on four others. That marked the end of his NHL career. He had played in 101 games over five seasons, scoring 13 goals and 24 points.
