Left-winger Larry Hopkins spent parts of four seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Jets in the 70s and 80s. He was best known as a top university player in Canada and a reliable two way worker in the minors.

Born in Oshawa, Ontario, Hopkins spent the 1972-73 season with the OHA's Oshawa Generals before enrolling at the University of Toronto. He was drafted 152nd overall by the Atlanta Flames in 1974 after a solid first year with the Varsity Blues. He remained at U of T through March, 1978 but never came to terms with Atlanta. He was signed to an amateur tryout contract by the Toronto Maple Leafs and played a couple of games for them late in the 1977-78 season before he was assigned to the Dallas Black Hawks in time for the CHL playoffs.

Hopkins scored 36 goals for the IHL's Saginaw Gears in 1978-79 but was not recalled to Toronto. He signed as a free agent with the Winnipeg Jets in August, 1979 and became a solid worker for the CHL's Tulsa Oilers. The Jets also recalled him for five games that year then spent the second half of the 1981-82 season working on the fourth line with Doug Smail and Tim Trimper. Hopkins retired after playing a few games in the NHL then the bulk of the 1982-83 schedule with Sherbrooke Jets of the AHL.
