Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Mike Hordy
Defenceman Mike Hordy played briefly with the New York Islanders in the 70s and 80s. He was an excellent offensive player who could also take the body effectively. Most of his success came in the minors and Europe.

Born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Hordy played with the home town Twins of the TBJHL before joining the OHA's Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. He was claimed 86th overall by the Islanders in 1976 after recording 68 points for the Soo.

During the late 70s' and Early 80s, Hordy was top rearguard in the Central Hockey League while receiving two recalls from Long Island. Beginning in 1979, Hordy was named to the CHL second all-star team three straight years. He also helped the Fort Worth Texans win the league championship in 1978 and was on hand when the Indianapolis Checkers did the same in 1982. After scoring 66 points for Indy in 1981-82, Hordy was voted on to the CHL first all-star team. He then signed with Zurich EC of Switzerland for a year then came to terms with the New Jersey Devils. After two years as a farmhand on the Maine Mariners of the AHL, Hordy retired in 1985.
