Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Larry Hornung
Defenceman Larry Hornung played briefly with the St. Louis Blues in the early 70s. He was a fine playmaker and quarterback with the extra man who enjoyed a fine career in the WHA and the minors.

Born in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Hornung played with several clubs in the SJHL. His best year was 1965-66 when he registered 62 points for the Weyburn Red Wings. The young blueliner enjoyed a fine rookie year as a pro with 37 points on the IHL's Toledo Blades in 1966-67. He then played several years in the CHL and AHL and helped the Buffalo Bisons win the Calder Cup in 1970.

Hornung played his first NHL game with St. Louis in 1970-71 then saw action in 47 contests the next year. He also played 11 post-season games when the Blues reached the semifinals. In the off-season, Hornung signed with the Winnipeg Jets as they prepared for the inaugural WHA season. That first year he scored 58 points and was named to the league's second all-star team. The crafty veteran played three more years in the Manitoba capital before splitting the 1976-77 season between the Edmonton Oilers and San Diego Mariners. Hornung returned to the Jets prior to the 1977-78 season then retired after 19 games.
