Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Jack Howard
John Francis "Jack" Howard was a defenceman who played a couple of games for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1936-37. He was a steady performer who was rarely caught out of position though he lacked the raw talent to make a long-term impact in the NHL.

Born in London, Ontario, Howard played two years with the Hamilton Tigers of the OHA senior A loop before joining the Syracuse Stars of the IAHL in 1935-36. He made his NHL cameo appearance the next year and continued to work in Syracuse foe nearly three more years. Beginning with the1939-40 season Howard was an AHA regular for the St. Louis Flyers and helped the team finish in first place two straight years and win the league playoff crown in 1941. He joined the Pittsburgh Hornets in 1941-42 and was a key defender on the club for four years before retiring in 1945.
