Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Steve Hrymnak
Defenceman Steve Hrymnak played briefly with the Chicago Black Hawks and Detroit Red Wings in the early 50s. He was a fine playmaker with a decent shot from the point that enjoyed several solid years in the minors.

Born in Port Arthur, Ontario, Hrymnak played amateur hockey for the local juniors and Flyers before spending the 1944-45 season in military service. After World War II, he spent another season with the Flyers before turning pro with the New York Rovers of the EHL. In 1947-48 he joined the New Haven Ramblers that began a six-year association with the AHL. During this period he was recalled to play 18 games for the Hawks in 1951-52 then, after a trade, he suited up for two playoff games in Detroit the next year.

Following his brief taste of the NHL, Hrymnak spent five years in the Western League before retiring in 1958. In 1955 he was a key component of the Edmonton Flyers' championship season.
