Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Kyle Calder
Left winger Kyle Calder spent the better part of his Junior career with the Regina Pats along with a brief stint with the Kamloops Blazers before turning pro in 1999 with the IHL's Cleveland Lumberjacks. That season he also made his NHL debut when he got a short look from the Chiacgo Blackhawks.

The 'Hawks drafted Calder in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft and they suited him up for eight games and he chipped in a goal and an assist during that time. The following year he spent the first half of the season with the AHL's Norfolk Admirals before getting the call from Chicago at the halfway point of the season. While Calder played well during his first stint as an everyday player his five goals and 15 points didn't prepare the Chicago brass for what lay ahead.

After missing training camp prior to the 2001-02 campaign with a stomach injury, Calder found himself on the first line with veterans Alexei Zhamnov and Tony Amonte and he complimented them perfectly. Calder's excellent board work and willingness to take the punishment in front of the opposition's net helped complete the unit. In January the NHL named Calder to the "Young Stars" game, part of the annual All-Star weekend. By season's end Calder had scored 17 goals and 53 points and continues to be one of the team's offensive leaders.

Following his stint with the Blackhawks, Calder was dealt to the Philadelphia Flyers by Chicago in exchange for Michael Handzus prior to the start of the 2006-07 NHL regular season. As a Flyer, Calder would struggle offensively recording only 21 points in 59 games. As a result, the Flyers dealt Carter in a three-team trade that sent him to the Detroit Red Wings. The trade to Detroit stimulated Calder offensively as the former Regina Pat recorded 14 points in 19 games with the Red Wings. However, he would once again struggle , recording only an assist in 13 postseason games.

In the off-season Kyle Calder signed as a free agent with the Los Angeles Kings who were looking to bolster their offensive attack.
