Left-winger Frank Hughes played five games for the California Golden Seals in 1971-72. During his career he was better known for his offensive prowess in the WHA and the minor leagues.

Born in Fernie, BC, Hughes was taken 43rd overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1969. He then played two years with the WHL's Phoenix Roadrunners and was claimed by California in the 1971 Intra-League draft. Hughes played a few games for the Seals then returned to Phoenix and scored 34 goals 53 games.

Prior to the 1972-73 season, Hughes signed with the WHA's Houston Aeros. He remained in the league through the early part of the 1977-78 season and helped Houston win the Avco Cup in 1974. Hughes also topped the 40-goal mark twice and toiled briefly with the Phoenix Roadrunners before their WHA franchise folded. The crafty veteran retired in 1979 after playing two years with the PHL's Phoenix Roadrunners and Tuscon Rustlers.
