Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- James Jarvis
Left winger James "Bud" Jarvis had the distinction of playing a year each with the defunct Pittsburgh Pirates and Philadelphia Quakers as well as a handful of games for the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was considered a fairly consistent performer who could provide the occasional goal.

The native of Fort William, Ontario played with the Ports club in adjacent Port Arthur in the Thunder Bay senior league. He signed as a free agent with Pittsburgh in October 1929 and scored 19 points in 44 games. The next year he stayed with the franchise when it was relocated to Philadelphia. Jarvis scored 12 points in the full slate of games but was part of one the worst teams in NHL history as the Quakers finished in last place with a dismal 4-36-4 record.

Jarvis next played five years in the minors, mostly with the IAHL's Buffalo Bisons. In September 1936 he signed as a free agent with the Toronto Maple Leafs after the Buffalo franchise folded. He scored a goal while competing in his last 24 NHL games in 1936-37. Jarvis remained in the AHL for another three and a half years and then returned to Northern Ontario to play senior hockey with Geralton Gold Miners in 1940-41. Following two years of military service he played 31 games for the AHL's Hershey Bears before retiring in 1944.
