Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Kerry Ketter
A rugged defensive defenceman with a hard shot, Kerry Ketter played half a season with the expansion Atlanta Flames in 1972-73. Apart from this short stay in the NHL, he provided solid play on the blueline for a number of minor pro teams.

Born in Prince George, B.C., Ketter grew up in the nearby lumber town of Sinclair Mills. He moved to Vancouver and played in the minor hockey system there before heading to Alberta. He was a fine junior with the Edmonton Oil Kings of the WCJHL and helped the team win the Memorial Cup in 1965-66. He was signed by the Detroit Red Wings on the recommendation of scout Clarence Mohrer. After two years with the Forth Worth Wings of the CHL his stock began to rise and he was elevated to the Baltimore Clippers of the AHL.

The young defender played a regular shift with veteran Kent Douglas and looked solid. However, he was hampered by a serious foot injury all year and the Wings opted to trade him to Montreal. Ketter learned a great deal playing a full season with the powerful Nova Scotia Voyageurs in 1971-72. The Atlanta Flames chose him the 1972 Expansion Draft and he played 41 games as a rookie in the franchise's inaugural season. He next spent two more years in the minors before playing one last pro season with the Edmonton Oilers in 1975-76.
