Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Dan Labraaten
Dan Labraaten was a skilful left-winger who spent parts of four NHL seasons with the Detroit Red Wings and Calgary Flames in the 70s and 80s. He was a speedy goal who was also well known as a top domestic and international player in his native Sweden.

The native of Leksands, Sweden spent the first six years of his pro career with his hometown club. He also played for his country at three straight World Championships beginning in 1974 and the 1976 Canada Cup. In June 1976 Labraaten came to terms with the WHA's Winnipeg Jets and notched 42 goals in two years with the team.

On the eve of the 1978-79 season the talented forward signed with the Red Wings and scored 19 goals in his rookie season. Later that year he played for Sweden when they won the bronze medal at the 1979 World Championships. Labraaten scored a personal high 30 goals in 1979-80 when he was teamed with Vaclav Nedomansky and Paul Woods on the club's second line.

After a slow start the next year he was traded to the Flames for Earl Ingarfield, Jr. but was strictly a role player for his new club. Labraaten returned to Leksands and played six more years before retiring in 1988. He also participated in two more World Championships and helped Sweden win a silver medal in 1986.
