Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Roger Leger
Defenceman Roger Leger suited up for five years in the NHL during the 1940s. He was a fine passer who played his position well in his own zone.

Born in Annonciation, Quebec, Leger was a top scorer for the senior Joliette Cyclones and Ottawa Montagnards before playing seven games for the New York Rangers in 1943-44. After he was traded to the Montreal Canadiens, he spent most of the next three years working on his game with the AHL's Buffalo Bisons. Leger showed he was ready for the challenge of the NHL by being named the AHL's top defeneceman in 1945 and 1946.

Leger was a regular in Montreal for most of the next four seasons and helped the club reach the Stanley Cup finals in 1947. After playing 55 games for the Habs in 1949-50, he spent six years in the minors and senior leagues before retiring in 1956. While skating for the Victoria Cougars he was named to the PCHL first all-star team in 1951 and 1952. His all-star momentum carried over into the 1953 and 1954 seasons when he was named to the first team after two strong years in the Quebec Senior League with the Montreal Royals.
