Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Lou Marcon
Defenseman Lou Marcon played parts of three seasons with the Detroit Red Wings in the 50s and 60s. He spent the majority of his substantial pro career in several minor pro leagues where he was known as a gritty competitor.

Born in Fort William, Ontario, Marcon played with the local Canadians of the TBJHL before joining the IHL's Cincinnati Mohawks in 1955-56. The Montreal Canadiens prospect bounced around the minors for two more years and was named to the IHL first and second all-star teams once each. Unable to break into the Habs' deep roster, he was claimed by the Detroit Red Wings at the Intra-League Draft in June, 1958. Marcon then split two seasons between the NHL and the WHL's Edmonton Flyers. He later became a full time member of the Flyers and helped the club win the WHL crown in 1962.

The rugged blueliner played one last NHL game for Detroit in 1962-63 before spending the next seven years in the minors. Following the 1968-69 season he sat out two years then returned to coach the Thunder Bay Twins of the USHL in 1971-72. The next year he also played 22 games for the club before retiring permanently.
