Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- John Markell
Left-winger John Markell played briefly with three NHL clubs in the 70sw and 80s. He was a fine scorer who enjoyed most of his pro success in the minors.

Born in Cornwall, Ontario Markell played two years of junior with the home town Royals before moving on to Bowling Green University. After he totaled 102 goals and was voted on to the CCHA all-star team three times, the talented forward signed with the Winnipeg Jets.

During the 1979-80 season, Markell notched ten goals in 38 games as a rookie and spent the other half of the season with the CHL's Tulsa Oilers. After spending most of the 1980-81 season in the minors, Markell was part of a major deal with the St. Louis Blues that featured Ed Staniowski and Paul McLean. Markell spent all but two games in the Blues' farm system and was placed on the CHL first all-star team in 1984 after scoring 44 goals for the Montana Magic.

Markell came to terms with the Minnesota North Stars in December, 1984 was only played one more NHL game. He retired after playing the 1985-86 season with ERC Schwenningen of Germany.
