Defenseman Ted McAneeley spent parts of three seasons with the California Golden Seals in the 70s. He was a solid positional player with above average offensive talent that was most apparent in the minors and senior hockey circles.
Born in Cranbrook, BC, McAneeley was selected 47th overall by the Seals in 1970 after a fine four year career in the WCJHL with the Calgary Buffalos and the Edmonton Oil Kings. He spent his first two pro seasons with the Providence Reds and Baltimore Clippers of the AHL before playing 77 games as a rookie with California in 1972-73.
McAneeley was one of the steadier players on the weak Seals for over two years but he eventually lost his place when the club opted to make changes in 1974-75. Following his demotion, the solid veteran recorded 50 points in 63 games for the CHL's Salt Lake Golden Eagles and was named to the league's second all-star team. The next year he spent 79 games helping to stabilize the defense corps on the WHA's Edmonton Oilers. McAneeley retired in 1979 after playing three years in the senior WIHL with the Spokane Jets.
