Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Paul McIntosh
Paul McIntosh played three years of major junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League with the Peterborough Petes from 1972 to 1974. By his final year McIntosh became a confident, aggressive defenseman who became one of the team leaders both on and off the ice. He was selected in the fourth round, 65th overall in the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft by the Buffalo Sabres.

During his first year as a professional, McIntosh spent the most of the season with Buffalos AHL affiliate in Hershey but he was inserted into the Sabres lineup for six games, picking up one assist. In 1975-76 he played another 46 games with the Sabres. With the likes of offensive stars such as Perreault, Martin, Robert and Gare in the lineup, McIntoshs role was made very clear play solid defensive hockey, which he did. McIntosh played four more years of pro hockey in the minors, retiring after the 1979-80 campaign as a member of the IHLs Saginaw Gears.

From 1980 to 1983 McIntosh was the head coach of the OHLs London Knights. Starting in 1984 he joined the Vancouver Canucks in a scouting position where he stayed for ten years before moving on for a two-year stop with the Calgary Flames in the same position. In 1996 he returned to junior hockey and the London Knights, serving first as the teams general manager and was named the OHL and Canadian Hockey League Executive of the Year in 1998. The team then promoted him with the title of Vice President of Hockey Operations, a post he kept for two years. He then joined the NHLs Dallas Stars in the fall of 2000 as a scout and is now head of the teams pro scouting division. Although there is a lot of flying involved with his job, McIntosh says he put over 80,000 kilometers on his car in just one year and often takes in as many as six pro games per week on behalf of the Stars during the height of the hockey season.
