Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Ian McKegney
Ian McKegney played with his hometown Sarnia Legionnaires of the OHA Junior B circuit before enrolling at the University of Waterloo in 1967, where he played for the school's hockey team.

In 1971-72, McKegney played in Sweden with Lulea in the Second Division. In September, 1972 he was signed to a contract by the Chicago Blackhawks and was sent to play with the team's CHL farm club in Dallas. He put in four years of hard work with Dallas before finally getting a shot at playing with Chicago for three games in 1976-77. It was the highlight of his hockey career, but going minus eight during his short tenure erased all hopes of getting a recall in the future.

McKegney finished his playing career in Austria in 1978-79 and although he did not leave an indelible mark in the NHL, he was regarded as one of the best defensemen ever to play in the CHL during his 376 games in the league. He was also named the CHL MVP in 1976 and its top defenseman in 1975 and 1976.
