Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Roger Melin
Roger Melin played his first eight years of professional hockey in his native Sweden, joining Vasby AIK in 1973 at the age of 16. In 16 games he scored two goals and collected ten points. His best year was in 1979-80, when playing with Vasby he scored 28 goals and 45 points in 36 games.

In 1980-81 Melin signed a free agent contract with the Minnesota North Stars and played in one game. He also played in nine games for the Oklahoma Stars of the CHL. The following year he was called up for two games with the North Stars. He spent 77 games with the Nashville South Stars where he had 18 goals and 45 points. In a three-game NHL career, Melin was held off the score sheet.

Despite having good size, the North American style was not to Melin's liking, where he was never able to become accustomed to the close checking style of play on the smaller ice surfaces. He returned to Sweden in the fall of 1982 where he played in Division Two for three years before retiring after the 1984-85 season. He made a brief nine-game emergency replacement to playing while serving as coach of Enkopings SK of Division Three during the 1987-88 season where he scored four goals and eleven points.

Melin remains in Sweden where he is now the coach of the Brynas Tigers, always one of the top teams in the Elite League with the likes of former NHL players Per Djoos and Tommy Sjodin in the lineup.
