Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Art Michaluk
Art Michaluk played his minor hockey in Canmore and at the age of 16 he played nine games for the Canmore Zephyrs of the AJHL scoring a goal and an assist in the 1939-40 season. He missed the next two years due to military service during World War Two. In 1942-43 he joined the Calgary Mustangs of the CNDHL for 21 games, scoring three goals and five points. Once again he missed an entire season of hockey with further military commitments before being able to return to the Mustangs for the 1944-45 season.

Michaluk remained in Calgary to play for the Stampeders in 1945-46 and 1946-47. The next year he was called up to play for the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks, where he dressed for five games, going pointless. He also played one game with the Pittsburgh Hornets and 39 games with the Providence Reds of the AHL. Those five games were the extent of his NHL experience but he did go on to play for another ten years in professional hockey.

Michaluk played another four years in Providence before returning to Calgary where he played six seasons, retiring at the end of the 1957-58 season at the age of 34. He was a WHL First All-Star Team selection in 1953 and 1956 and was a WHL Prairie Division All-Star in 1957. His younger brother John was also a hockey player, dressing for one NHL game with the Chicago Blackhawks in 1950-51.
