Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- John Miner
Defenseman John Miner played midget hockey in the AAHA with the Regina Pat Canadians at 15 before joining the Regina Blues of the SJHL in 1981-82. He played 56 games with the club and was noticed by the Regina Pats, who called him up to play the rest of the year in major junior hockey. He remained with the Pats for another three seasons and represented Canada at the 1985 World Championships, returning home with the gold medal. He was also named to the WHL East First All-Star Team in 1985.

Miner had been selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the tenth round, 29th overall in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft and he got his first opportunity to play for them in the 1987-88 season when he suited up for 14 games, scoring two goals and five points. It turns out that would be the extent of his entire NHL career.

On August 10, 1988 Miner was traded to the Los Angeles Kings for defenseman Craig Redmond, but he never played with the Kings. In fact from 1988 Miner has spent his entire playing career in Europe, first going to Austria, then Switzerland. He currently plays for the Cologne Sharks of the German Elite League.
