Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Jim Murray
Defenseman Jim Murray played three years of major junior hockey with the Brandon Wheat Kings, including one as an overage player in 1963-64. He was particularly strong in that final season, scoring 34 points in 30 games.

As a free agent Murray signed with the EHL's New York Rovers. He played in the Big Apple for one year before moving on for two years with the Knoxville Knights. With expansion in 1967-68, Murray was handed the opportunity to play for the Los Angeles Kings. He appeared in 30 games that year, picking up a pair of assists. The fledgling team was expectedly weak compared to the other established NHL clubs, and Murray was one of the earlier personnel casualties as the Kings looked to improve.

Murray continued to play pro hockey for another seven years. His most famous minor-league stop was in 1974-75 when he suited up for five games with the NAHL's Johnstown Jets, the franchise from which the fictitious Charlestown Chiefs was based upon the 1977 movie Slap Shot. On the Jets team that year were Steve Carlson, Jeff Carlson and Dave Hanson, the trio who played the now famous Hanson Brothers in the cult classic movie. Jack Carlson, brother of Steve and Jeff was also on the Jets team that year and was originally cast to have been the third brother in the movie, but prior commitments kept him from appearing. The role of the third brother was then given to Hanson as producers of the movie felt he looked a lot like the Carlson brothers.
