Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Graeme Nicolson
Defenceman Graeme Nicolson played briefly in the NHL with three different clubs between 1978-79 and 1982-83. He played a hard-nosed style and was adept at moving the puck up ice and playing the point on the power play

The native of North Bay, Ontario scored 45 goals in three seasons with the Cornwall Royals of the QMJHL. He was selected 35th overall in 1978 by the Boston Bruins and was selected to the QMJHL's first and second all-star teams once each. Nicolson debuted in the NHL by playing one game for Boston in 1978-79. That year he enjoyed a solid rookie season in the pros with the Rochester Americans with 51 points. The young blueliner spent a year with the AHL's Binghamton Whalers then took a year off.

In September 1981 he was signed as a free agent by the Colorado Rockies and played 41 games for them. Before the end of the year he was returned to the minors and was claimed on waivers by the New York Rangers at the start of the next season. Apart from playing ten games for the "Blueshirts" he excelled for two years with the CHL's Tulsa Oilers. In 1984 he was named to the league's second all-star team. Nicolson retired in 1985 after playing 37 games back in the AHL with Binghamton.
