Daniel Poudrier was born February 15, 1964 in Thetford-Mines, Quebec. The 6th choice, 131st overall selection of the Quebec Nordiques in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft, Poudrier is a graduate of the Quebec Amateur Athletic Association and of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

The Thetford-Mines, Quebec native spent three seasons in the "Q" with stops in Shawinigan and Drummondville before spending the majority of his first season of professional hockey with the International Hockey League's Muskegon Mohawks.

Even though Poudrier spent the better part of the 1984-85 season in Muskegon, he did suit up for one game with the American Hockey League's Fredericton Express before making his NHL debut the following year.

Poudrier played in 13 games with the Nordiques during the 1985-86 season while spending the better part of the year with Fredericton. During his second and third seasons with Nordiques, Poudrier was limited to only 12 games before he was assigned to the AHL.

In 1988-89 Poudrier split his season with the AHL's Halifax Citadels and HC Mont Blanc in France before joining Canada's National team the following year. Even though he spent the majority of the season with Team Canada, Poudrier played eleven games in Austria with WEV Wien.

Over the next ten years, Poudrier spent nine of them playing in Germany while playing in a handful of games with the Colonial Hockey League's St. Thomas Wildcats in 1992-92 and as a player-coach for the Quebec Senior Hockey League's Thetford-Mines Coyotes in 1993-94.

Following his tenure in Germany, Poudrier returned to Thetford-Mines in 2000-01 as a player where he finished tied for sixth in team scoring with 39 points.

Throughout his career, Daniel Poudrier has played in 25 NHL games, scoring one goal while adding five assists for six points.
