Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Ellie Pringle
In October 1930, Ellis Pringle joined the New York Americans training camp in Galt, Ontario. The Toronto Marlboros defenseman was joined by a host of rookies trying to make the club such as Eddie Convey and Harry "Yip Radley."

Pringle alternated between the Americans and their farm club, New Haven Eagles. Ellis made a case for himself on November 3 when he scored two goals in exhibition play, and put in another strong effort on defense three nights later. Eddie Gerard, the Americans coach, was impressed enough by Pringle ' play that he kept him on the roster for the American' opening night game. Gerard intended Ellis to be a relief player, along with "Red" Dutton, to the regular defensive pair of "Bullet Joe" Simpson and Bill Bridge.

Ellis Pringle journeyed with the Americans to the season opener in Boston on November 11, 1930. He was listed as a spare in the game lineup and did not figure in the scoring summary. Two nights later Pringle accompanied the team to his birthplace, Toronto. Newspaper accounts indicate he was dressed for the game but did not appear on ice, which likely disappointed his friends, family and former Marlboro teammates. Pringle appeared in six games, with his last Americans appearance coming at home against the Ottawa Senators. As in his other games, he recorded no goals, no assists and no penalty minutes. The Americans went 1-3-2 in the games he appeared in but, more important, the team only allowed five goals.

Pringle was assigned to New Haven and finished out the season with the Eagles. A couple years later he drifted out of the Americans organization. It was in the minor leagues that Pringle found a place for his solid defensive game, with stays in a variety of leagues and teams before retiring as a player in 1943.
