Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Phil Samis
Phil Samis was a rugged defenceman who played a handful of regular season and playoff games for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the late 40s. Most of his success came in the AHL and as an amateur.

Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Samis played junior B with the hometown Maple Leafs before moving to Toronto to suit up for the St. Michael's Majors. He then played for the Oshawa Generals before making his pro debut with the AHL's Pittsburgh Hornets in 1947-48. Late in the season he was recalled to Toronto and played five games while helping the club win its third Stanley Cup in four years.

In 1948-49 Samis returned to the Hornets and was chiefly a stalwart in the minors before retiring in 1953. He also played a couple of more games with the Maple Leafs and dressed for the senior Montreal Royals.
