Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Brad Selwood
Defenceman Brad Selwood played three NHL seasons in the 70s but was better known for toiling in all seven years of the WHA. He was a fine puckhandler with a decent shot from the point and could also take the body in his own zone.

Born in Leamington, Ontario, Selwood was taken tenth overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1968 after he registered 33 points for the Niagara Falls Flyers of the OHA. He apprenticed for two years in the minors then played 28 games as an NHL rookie in 1970-71. In 1970 he was named the top rookie in the WHL. In 1971-72 he played a regular shift and appeared to bet for a long career in blue and white.

Prior to the 1972-73 season, Selwood was lured to the WHA by the New England Whalers. That year he helped the club win the first league championship and was a regular with the club through the duration of the WHA's existence. His steady play also led to his selection to Team Canada for the 1974 Summit Series versus the USSR.

Prior to the 1979-80 season, Selwood was reclaimed by the Montreal Canadiens who had picked him off Toronto's roster way back in the 1972 Intra League Draft. He was quickly traded to the LA Kings for draft picks and played 63 games for them. Selwood was sent down to the minors the next year and retired in 1982.
