Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Jack Shewchuk
Sometimes the luck just isn't there to win a Stanley Cup. This was the case for Jack Shewchuck and the Boston Bruins.

After playing only two seasons in the North Ontario Hockey Association, beginning in the 1932-33 season with the Sudbury Wolves and the Copper Cliff Jr. Redmen, Shewchuck was signed by the Boston Bruins as a free agent and spent the 1937-38 season with their AHL team, the Providence Reds. He made his NHL debut the following season playing three games in Boston and the majority of it with the Reds. Shewchuck had to sit by and watch as the Bruins went through the playoffs and won the Stanley Cup.

He spent the entire 1939-40 season in the NHL, making his first appearance in the Stanley Cup playoffs as the Bruins prepared to defend their championship. Unfortunately, the team fell short, losing to the New York Rangers in the semi-finals. Shewchuck split the next season with the Bruins and the Hershey Bears. Once again, he did not make it into the Cup playoffs and had to sit by and watch as the Bruins won their second Stanley Cup in three seasons.

Shewchuck spent the next few seasons up and down with the Bruins before leaving the NHL for military service during the 1943-44 season. He came back to play one more NHL season in 1944-45 with the Bruins. From 1945 to 1952, Shewchuck played in the AHL and OHA Sr. league where in his last season of hockey he returned to play for the Brantford Redmen before retiring from the game.
