Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Bjorn Skaare
Bjorn Skaare was an NHL trailblazer as Norwegian NHLer. Born in Oslo, Norway on October 29th, 1958, Skaare split his Junior career between Sweden and Ontario, Canada, then moved onto the Central Hockey League in 1978. That he year he was also summoned by the Detroit Red Wings for a single game.

Skaare suited up for one game with the Wings and was held of the score sheet, though he did register one shot. At the minor pro level that season the centre produced at just under a point-a-game pace.

For the 1979-80 season Skaare returned to his homeland where he was a dominant offensive force. In 1980-81, his second season with Furuset IF of the Norwegian League, Skaare led the league in all offensive categories with 38 goals, 34 assists and 72 points in just 33 games and captured the Gold Puck awarded to the league's best player. The next two years of his career were spent in Austria then in 1983 Skaare decided to give North American hockey another shot joining the Tulsa Oilers, though he played just two games that season. The next campaign was his last and it was spent back home in Olso where he again was an impressive offensive player producing 67 points in 35 games.
