Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Tom Thurlby
Defenseman Tom Thurlby played 20 games for the Oakland Seals in 1967-68. He was a fine puck mover who supplied solid coverage in his own end during a career spent mostly in the Western League.

Born in Kingston, Ontario, Thurlby played junior B with the Kitchener Canucks before moving up the peterborough Petes. He was originally owned by the Boston Bruins but was picked up by the Montreal Canadiens at the Intra-League Draft in 1960. He was only seen as farm club insurance by Montreal and ended up playing five years with the San Francisco Seals of the WHL where he won consecutive championships in 1963 and 1964.

In April, 1966 Thurlby's rights were transfered to the California Seals of the WHL, the farm club of the new NHL club based in Oakland. He played 20 NHL games for Oakland then bounced around the minors for three years before sitting out the 1970-71 season. Thurlby returned in 1971 to play two years with OHA senior Kingston Aces before hangingn up his skates for good in 1973.
