Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Larry Trader
Larry Trader was a mobile defenceman with a good shot who spent parts of four seasons in the NHL during the 1980s. He was best able to show his talent in Europe and the minors and never really had a chance to show his stuff in North America.

Born in Barry's Bay, Ontario, Trader played Junior B with the Gloucester Rangers before joining the London Knights of the OHL. He was chosen by the Detroit Red Wings 86th overall at the 1981 Entry Draft. Trader represented Canada at the 1983 World Junior Championships and played 15 games as a rookie in 1982-83.

The mobile defender played 40 games in 1984-85 and was a regular on the AHL's Adirondack Red Wings for two years. He scored 56 points in 1985-86 and was placed on the league's second all-star team. In 1986-87, he played 48 games for the Canadian national team before he was traded to the St. Louis Blues.

Trader played a handful of games for St. Louis then played 30 games with the Montreal Canadiens in 1987-88. After playing 51 games for the AHL's Binghamton Whalers in 1988-89, he headed to Austria and Italy before retiring in 1994.
