Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Dean Turner
After two years with the University of Michigan Dean Turner was drafted by the New York Rangers in 1978 and he found himself pulling their jersey over his head and making his NHL debut in the following season.

Turner had spent the 1978-79 season honing his game with the Rangers American Hockey League farm club in New Haven, but the big club called him up for one game that year. Turner was unable to register a point and was on the ice for one goal against in his first contest. With only one game under his belt, Turner was dealt early in his second pro-campaign as part of the blockbuster deal that brought Barry Beck to Broadway. Turner and three other Rangers packed their bags and headed to Colorado to join the Rockies.

With the Rockies Turner was given more of a chance to show his stuff at the NHL level. He appeared in 27 games for Colorado in 1979-80 and scored a goal. The goal would prove to be his only NHL point. Turner played just 4 games for Colorado the next year with the rest of his time toiling in the minors.

In the summer of 1981 Turner signed with the Buffalo Sabres as a free agent but never played for them. Despite posting the best numbers of his professional career with their farm team in Rochester Turner was never called up to big club. Instead, Turner he was packing his bags just prior to the start of the 1982-83 season as the result of a trade to the Los Angeles Kings. With L.A. he would enjoy his last cup of coffee in the NHL.

Turner was summoned by the Kings for 3 games during the 1982-83 season but was unable to record a point. After finishing the season in the AHL Dean Turner retired.
