Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Kurt Walker
Big defenseman Kurt Walker had a six professional career that saw him suit up for 71 NHL games over three campaigns. Walker, who played his Junior in Sherbrooke, signed a free agent deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs after spending the 1974-75 season with the Saginaw Gears of the International League.

Once he became Toronto property he packed his gear and reported to their farm club, the Oklahoma City Blazers for the 1975-76 campaign, but he also briefly surfaced in Toronto for a short stint.

The defenseman suited up for five games with the Maple Leafs but was unable to register a point. The following year he played 26 contests for Toronto and chipped in two goals and five points while posting a plus-five plus/minus rating. During his third season in the organization he played a career-high 40 game for the Maple Leafs and scored four points, but his plus/minus rating dropped down to negative-five. However, the highlight of his career came that spring, when he suited up for ten playoffs games with the Maple Leafs and was playing in the match where Darryl Sittler scored five goals. However, the good times were soon to end. That summer, the Maple Leafs traded Kurt Walker, along with Scott Garland, Brian Glennie and a 2nd rounder to the Los Angeles Kings for Dave Hutchinson and Lorne Stamler.

His career floundered in the Los Angeles organization, however, and he never made it up to their big league club. Walker spent the final two seasons of his career with four different minor league clubs but after being limited to just 17 games in his final season, the big defenseman decided to hang them up.
