Bennett Wolf was born October 23, 1959 in Kitchener, Ontario. The second choice, 52nd overall, of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Wolf was a bruising defenseman with the Kitchener Rangers and Toronto Marlboros of the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League before joining the Grand Rapids Owls of the International Hockey League for the 1979-80 season.
In his only season with the Griffins, Wolf accumulated over 400 penalty minutes while scoring three goals and 17 points. The 1980-81 season saw Wolf make his NHL debut with the Penguins. Although he played in 24 games with Pittsburgh, Wolf also saw action with the Binghamton Whalers of the American Hockey League.
Bennett Wolf played only one game with the Penguins during the 1981-82 season while spending the majority of the season with the Erie Blades of the American Hockey League. A return to the AHL with the Baltimore Skipjacks awaited Wolf in 1982-83, where he managed to see action in only five games with the Penguins throughout the season.
The 1983-84 and 84-85 seasons saw Wolf accumulate over 747 minutes in penalties and fall short with the Skipjacks in the 1985 Calder Cup finals.
