Robert Wood was born July 9, 1930 in Lethbridge, Alberta. After spending four years as a member of the Lethbridge Native Sons (1946-50), two years with the Alberta Junior Hockey League, and two with the Western Canada Junior Hockey League, Wood made his National Hockey League debut during the 1950-51 season.

The 6'1", 185 lbs. defenseman spent the majority of the season with the New York Rovers of the Eastern Amateur Hockey League but managed to play one game with the Rangers, his first and only NHL game.
