Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Mattias Timander
Born in Skelleftea, Sweden, Mattias Timander played four years with MoDo AIK and was a member of Team Sweden at the 1994 World Junior Championships. A mobile player with good puck handling skills, he was selected 208th overall by the Boston Bruins in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft but did not come to North America for another four years.

In 1996-97, he split his first three pro seasons between the NHL and the AHL's Providence Bruins, before he was taken by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2000 NHL Expansion Draft.

Upon his arrival in Columbus, Timmander played the best hockey of his young career, logging over 21 minutes per game. He moved the puck with confidence and was effective in clearing the front his net. Timander played two seasons with the Blue Jackets before being acquired by the New York Islanders in the summer of 2002. After parts of two seasons in the organization, Timander was acquired by the Philadelphia Flyers prior to the 2004 NHL All-Star Game.
