Vladimir Chebaturkin was selected with the New York Islanders third pick, 66th overall in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft. Chebaturkin grew up playing hockey in Russia and starred for his local city team while also playing a year of Division Two and Division One in Russia. In 1985 he was a member of the Russian team at the World Junior Hockey Championships in Red Deer, Alberta.

Chebaturkin spent the 1993-94 season with Kristal Elektrostal of the C.I.S. second division. In 1994-95, he played for Kristal at the C.I.S. elite level and scored eight points in 52 games. In 1995-96, he played 44 games for Kristal.

Chebaturkin turned pro in 1996-97, travelling to North America to join the Utah Grizzlies of the IHL. In 68 games he picked up four assists. The following year he was playing with the Kentucky Thoroughblades when he got the call from the Islanders to play in two games, where he chipped in with a pair of assists. The next year he suited up for eight games and by the 1999-00 season he dressed for 17 Islander games, and also picked up his first NHL goal.

Chebaturkin signed with the St. Louis Blues for the 2000-01 season, but appeared in just one game. He signed a free-agent contract with the Chicago Blackhawks on September 5, 2001, and currently plays with the Norfolk Admirals of the AHL.
