Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Jason Widmer
Defenseman Jason Widmer was a 1992 draft pick of the New York Islanders and he joined their farm club for a handful of games following his fourth season of Junior. Despite his short stint in the American Hockey League late in the 1992-93 season, he was back in Junior the following year playing as an over-age. The 1994-95 season was a busy one for the blue liner. He played 73 games for the Worcester IceCats of the AHL, but also had a six game stay with the Canadian National Team and made his NHL debut with the Islanders.

Widmer played a single game for New York and registered no points while posting a minus-one plus/minus rating. The next season was again spent primarily with Worcester but he was back with the Islanders for four matches. Though he was again held scoreless, Widmer accumulated seven penalty minutes and directed one shot on net. That summer his contract with New York expired and he became a free agent. On September 11, 1996 Widmer inked a deal with the San Jose Sharks and it was with him that he would record his only NHL point.

The Sharks only used Widmer in two games during his time in their organization, but he was able to register an assist in that time. The rest of that season and all of the following one was spent with San Jose's farm club, the Kentucky Thoroughblades. In 1998 Widmer returned to the Worcester IceCats but after being limited to just 37 appearances over two years due to injury woes he hung up his skates for good.
