Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Ian Herbers
Defenceman Ian Herbers was a utility player for three different NHL clubs between 1993-00. The 6'4", 225 pounder was an imposing hitter on the blueline and could pass the puck up to his forwards with efficiency.

Born in Jasper, Alberta, Herbers was taken 190th overall by the Buffalo Sabres in 1987 while he was in the midst of a fine career with several WHL teams. He never came to terms with Buffalo and opted to spend four years playing hockey and getting a higher education at the University of Alberta.

Following his university career, Herbers signed with the Edmonton Oilers and spent his rookie pro season with Cape Breton of the AHL. He played 22 NHL games in 1993-94 but remained a regular on the farm until he joined the IHL's Detroit Vipers part way through the 1994-95 season. After several years as regular with the Vipers, Herbers signed with the Tampa May Lightning and played 37 games for them in 1999-00. Following a trade to the New York Islanders, he played six games late in the season then spent the 2000-01 schedule with the IHL's Cleveland Lumberjacks.
