Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Kyle Freadrich
Left-winger Kyle Freadrich is a pure enforcer. Checking in at a massive 6'7, 250 pounds, his mere appearance is intimidating, but he backs up it with pugilistic skills as well.

Freadrich was originally drafted by the Vancouver Cancuks in 1997, but they let him leave the organization as a free agent two years later.

With the Tampa Bay organization Freadrich racked up penalty minutes with the Louisianna Ice Gators and the Detroit Vipers but also spent ten games with the Lightning.

Freadrich's NHL debut was quiet but he made a lasting impression during his second recall to Tampa bay. That night the Lightning played the Chicago Blackhawks and he found himself on the ice with fellow enforcer Ryan VandenBussche and soon the inevitable fight ensued. By the time the bloody bout was over, Freadrich had clearly arrived as a feared fighter in the National Hockey League.

However, he couldn't hold on to Tampa's tough guy job because he lacked the other skills that would help him survive game-in and game-out in the National Hockey League. After playing 23 games over two years with the Lightning, Freadrich was clearly out of their plans in the long run.

In the summer of 2001, the Lightning dealt the big man to the New York Rangers along with winger Nils Ekman in exchange for checking forward Tim Taylor. The trade back-fired badly for the Rangers when Ekman elected to return to Sweden to play and Freadrich suffered a concussion during the pre-season that cost him his entire year.
