Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Terry Virtue
Defenseman Terry Virtue's persistence and hard work finally paid off on January 16th, 1999 when he made his NHL debut after seven and half long years in the minors. After playing four seasons of Junior in the Western League, the defenseman was not drafted or signed by an NHL club and began his professional career in the East Coast Hockey League. During his third season in the ECHL, he moved on to the American Hockey League's Cape Breton Oilers, then signed on with the International League's Atlanta Knights for the 1994-95 campaign, but played just 1 game with them before taking his gear to Worcester of the AHL. After two years with the St. Louis Blues farm club in Worcester, he signed his first NHL deal with them, but never worked his way up to their lineup. In August of 1998 he signed on with the Boston Bruins and was assigned to their farm club in Providence for the season, but that changed when he was called up in mid-January.

Virtue had worked his way all the way up to the National Hockey League and managed to stay for four games with the Bruins. His efforts that year in the AHL were also worth of a First All-Star Team berth.

IN the summer he signed on with the New York Rangers and though he was primarily a depth defenseman whose time was spent in Hartford with the Wolf Pack, he did return to the NHL for one game during the 1999-00 season.
