Blessed with good speed and a quick release, Jonas Hoglund filled the net on a regular basis in his native Sweden before making his NHL debut in 1996-97.
Born in Hammaro, Sweden, Hoglund was claimed 222nd overall by the Calgary Flames in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft when he was in the midst of a fine six year tenure with Farjestads BK. He joined the Flames in 1996-97 and potted 19 goals in 68 games. Hoglund's play dropped off the next year and he was traded to the Montreal Canadiens at mid-season.
During his year and-a-half with the Habs, Hoglund showed flashes of offensive talent but few skill players surrounded him. Montreal opted to look at other players and the speedy winger signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs in July, 1999. Hoglund record 29- and 23-goal seasons for his new club and often worked well in tandem with captain Mats Sundin. His fine two way work helped the Leafs hit the 100-point mark in 1999-00 and reach the second round of the playoffs two years in a row.
Hoglund went on to play four seasons with the Leafs before being acquired by the Florida Panthers in the summer of 2003. However, Hoglund would never see any action with the Panthers and sudsequently found a home with Davos in the Swiss National League.
On the international stage, Hoglund has represented his homeland at the 1992 WJC and is a four-time member of its World Championship team (1997, 2003, 2004 and 2005).
