Tomas Kloucek was born March 7, 1980 in Prague, Czech Republic. The fifth round, 131st overall selection of the New York Rangers in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Kloucek is a graduate of the QMJHL's Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.
A hulking defenceman, Kloucek made his professional debut with the Rangers AHL affiliate in Hartford in 1999-00. Not known for his offensive skills, Kloucek, who is a stay at home defenceman played parts of two seasons in Hartford before making his NHL debut with the Rangers during the 2000-01 season.
Kloucek went on to play parts of four seasons with the Ranger organization before being acquired by the Nashville Predators in the early stages of the 2002-03 season. Upon his arrival in Nashville, Kloucek dressed for a handful of games with the Preds' while spending the latter half of the year in the AHL with the Milwaukee Admirals.
After a little over one season with Nashville, Kloucek was dealt to the Atlanta Thrashers in December of 2003. Kloucek would only compete in one game with the Thrashers and spend the majority of the season with the club's AHL affiliate in Chicago.
Kloucek was signed as a free agent by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the summer of 2006. Kloucek would spend 37 games with the Thrashers before spending a season overseas in the Czech Republic. Kloucek would return to North America to compete with the Chicago Wolves before signing on as an unrestricted free agent by the Columbus Blue Jackets.
