Bobby Allen was born November 14, 1978 in Braintree, Massachusetts. The second round, 52nd overall selection of the Boston Bruins in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Allen attended Cushing Academy High School before joining Boston College in 1997-98.
A Hockey East Second Team All-Star in 2000 and First Team All-Star in 2001, Allen was instrumental in leading Boston College to the 2001 NCAA Championship, while earning NCAA East First Team All-American honours.
During his four years at Boston College, the Braintree, Massachusetts native amassed 110 PTS (25-85-110) before making his minor pro debut with the AHL's Providence Bruins in 2001-02. Allen went on to play 49 games with Providence before being dealt to the Edmonton Oilers in the latter stages of the season.
Allen went on to play the remainder of the 2001-02 and the better part of the 2002-03 season with the Oilers AHL affiliate in Hamilton while making his NHL debut with parent club in 2002-03. After parts of two seasons in Hamilton, Allen and the AHL franchise moved to Toronto in 2003-04 and became the Roadrunners before being acquired by the New Jersey Devils in the summer of 2004.
Bobby signed as a free agent with the Boston Bruins on July 17, 2006.
