Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Joe DiPenta
Joe DiPenta was born February 25, 1979 in Barrie, Ontario. The third round, 61st overall selection of the Florida Panthers in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Dipenta played two years at Boston University before joining the QMJHL's Halifax Mooseheads in 1999-00.

Unable to reach a contract agreement with the Panthers, DiPenta signed as a free agent with the Philadelphia Flyers in the summer of 2001. Upon his arrival in Philadelphia, the Barrie native spent parts of two seasons with the team's AHL affiliate also located in Philadelphia before being acquired by the Atlanta Thrashers midway through the 2001-02 season. A solid defender, DiPenta helped the Thrashers AHL affiliate in Chicago capture its first Calder Cup title before making his NHL debut with Atlanta in 2002-03.

In the summer of 2005, DiPenta was acquired by the Anaheim Mighty Ducks. In his first season with the Ducks, DiPenta was a regular on the clubs blue line and he appeared in all 16 of the Ducks playoff games. The following year, DiPenta appeared in his third NHL season and established a new career high for games played in a season (76). During the NHL playoffs that season, Dipenta appeared in 16 games and helped the Anaheim Ducks to their first Stanley Cup in their franchise history.
